Contact Lens Exam

A contact lens exam first begins with a comprehensive eye examination. Dr. Wu will first determine your overall eye health and vision. This includes a discussion of your health history and then a series of standard eye tests. These tests will evaluate eye focusing, eye teaming, peripheral vision, and the response of your pupils to light. Dr. Wu will also measure your eye pressure (or intraocular eye pressure, IOP) which helps screen for glaucoma, and evaluate your retina and optic nerve if you choose to dilate or have retinal images taken.

If contact lenses are appropriate for you, Dr. Wu will then review your contact lens preferences, visual goals, and daily lifestyle. you  are over 40, Dr. Wu will likely discuss age-related vision changes and how contact lenses can address these issues.

Contact lenses require precise measurements of your eyes to fit properly. The curvature of your eye's cornea, the clear front surface of your eye, helps determine which contact lens product may be the best fit.

There also are many different contact lens products on the market.  Dr. Wu will also evaluate your tear film and determine which product would work best on your personal and financial goals.  Newer contact lenses deliver more moisture to the surface of the eye, making them a better choice for individuals with dry eye issues.

Once a pair of contacts are selected for you, these will be called "trial contact lenses" while Dr. Wu checks your vision with them on as well examines the lenses in on your eyes to ensure a good fit. 

Dr. Wu will usually have you wear the trial lenses for a week. After that, you will have a short follow-up exam to confirm that the lenses are working well for you, and at that time you can then order a supply of contact lenses.
